Methodism came to Dallas, Pennsylvania in 1803 through the efforts of Rev. George Peck. The homes of Philip Kunkle, Christian Rice and Richard Honeywell were used for religious meetings until 1816 when a log schoolhouse which was also used as a church was built. Later another building was built near Goss Corners and used as a church until 1851 when construction began on a new church was built at the corner of Lake Street and Center Hill Road. The current church building was begun in September 1888 on a lot that cost $700. It was completed in the Spring of 1889 at a cost of $11,300.
Through the years many faithful families and individuals have contributed their time, talents, abilities, and financial support to make many improvements to our church. One such improvement occurred in 1931 when work began ‘by hand’ to excavate a basement under the church building. Work on the basement was completed in 1934.
The attached Education Building was completed in 1958 at a cost of $135,000.
Over the past 200-plus years, hundreds if not thousands of people have been introduced to Jesus Christ and have grown in their relationship with Him through the teaching and fellowship of faithful pastors and believers here at Dallas United Methodist Church. Our mission is and always will be Christ’s commandment … “to make disciples (followers) of Jesus Christ”. We invite you to join us “on this journey” to grow into the person He wants us to be.
